Privacy policy

This is a translation for convenience; the German version is authoritative.

1. At a glance

Zeitgeist is a magazine for reading. We set no cookies for visitors, use no analytics or advertising services and embed no content from third parties (no videos, maps, fonts or social media buttons from other servers). There is no registration, no comment function and no contact form. Personal data is processed only when your browser requests a page (server log files) and when you send us an email.

3. Hosting

This website is hosted externally. The server platform is operated by Elestio Limited, 29 Merrion Square, Dublin 2, D02 RW64, Ireland. The servers are located in a data centre of Hetzner Online GmbH (Industriestraße 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen) in Germany. The server log files described below are processed on these servers. Hosting is based on our legitimate interest in a secure, fast and reliable service (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR); our hosts process data only as needed to provide their services and on our instructions (processing on behalf under Art. 28 GDPR).

4. Server log files

When you request a page, your browser automatically transmits information that is stored in server log files: browser type and version, operating system, referrer URL, host name of the accessing computer, time of the request and IP address. This data is not combined with other data sources. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; our legitimate interest is the technically sound and secure provision of the website.

5. Cookies

This website sets no cookies for visitors and does not access information on your device. Cookies are only set when the editorial team logs into the administration area.

6. Emails to the newsroom

If you email us, for example to report an error or provide a source, we store and process your message and the data it contains (e.g. name, email address) to handle your request and, where needed, correct the story. Our mailboxes are run on the email service Google Workspace. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in handling requests and in accurate reporting). We do not share your data without your consent and delete it once your request has been handled, unless statutory retention periods apply.

7. AI newsroom

Stories are produced with language models by Anthropic. This processes published sources, not data about visitors to this website.

8. Links

Stories link to their sources. If you follow a link, the privacy policy of the respective provider applies there.

9. Your rights

Under the applicable law you have the right to access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18) and data portability (Art. 20). Where processing is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, you may object on grounds relating to your particular situation (Art. 21). 10. Encryption

This site uses TLS encryption, recognisable by “https://” and the lock symbol in your browser. Emails cannot be fully protected against access by third parties.
